After doing this behind the scenes video, we are totally smitten with the Home Run Wedding couple. Here’s a little more about how they fell in love.
HOW THEY MET
Matt and Shannon met through an online dating service about two years ago. She was his ninth match; he was her eighth match. When asked, “What’s your greatest adventure?” he shared stories of growing up in a military family and living in Bangkok and then in Germany for six years while stationed with the Air Force himself. A military transfer brought him to Offutt Air Force Base in 1994.
THE FIRST DATE
She almost bailed on him because she thought 9 p.m. was a little too late in the evening to be meeting a stranger. They ended up closing down the Corkscrew Wine & Cheese at Rockbrook Village and then talking for an extra hour in the parking lot. She asked if he’d like to go out the next night and he confessed that he had a date with another woman. The next day, he called to tell Shannon that he was free after all. “I thought that was a great sign,” Shannon says.
THE COURTSHIP
Matt, an IT director for Midlands Choice, had been divorced for 12 years and was looking for a relationship when he joined eHarmony. “I’m not a TV watcher,” Matt said. “I don’t want to hear about other people doing things that I could have done.” Shannon, an Omaha native and vice president of finance for frozen and food service for ConAgra Inc., had been divorced since 2000. She found Matt’s enthusiasm for sports refreshing and started beginner’s hockey last fall. Today, she holds her own on a co-ed team with Matt. He started running and biking, “which was a great way to spend time with Shannon.”
HOW HE PROPOSED
On his birthday, April 4, over champagne on the deck of their newly purchased house. “He accidentally dropped the ring, which gave him the perfect excuse to get down on one knee,” Shannon says.
