Ninety percent of the time, the crazy trends walking the designer shows at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week are a little extravagant, a little outrageous, and only look good on a tall, underweight, perfectly structured female. Ultimately though, the point behind these shows is to create inspiration that can trickle down from the impractical hairstyles down to a muted version that is original and unique: hence, the idea of a trend! This year’s Spring/Summer ’13 Fashion Week did not disappoint, with dozens of inspired shows with some interesting ideas- some that might never work in real life, and some that might be just the creative touch you’re looking for to personalize your spring or summer wedding as you plan the enormous amount of tiny details. Here are some of our favorites:
1. Kate Spade:
The Kate Spade presentation, whimsical as always, was filled with garden-party inspired frocks and metallic textures combined with pretty neutrals. What to snag from it? The color schemes were fresh and perfect for any spring or summer wedding. Pink, turquoise, gold, white and silver added a little sparkle to a color palette that can be detailed with lace embellishments or gold studs. Try a pink bridesmaid dress with a turquoise handbag, gold earrings, and white shoes captoed with silver to compliment the stunning white dress of the bride.
2. J.Crew:
Filled with their characteristic textured, tailored looks, the J.Crew show was also notable for their unique beauty looks that only served to complement the drool-worthy clothes. The thick, filled out eyebrows of past seasons has transitioned into a lighter, manicured eyebrow accompanied by matte orange lips. Try using cool colors around the eyes, such as a light blue or emerald green, which will be accented by slicked-back hair and a polished overall finish.
3. Tommy Hilfiger: Chevron, stripes, polka dots– there was no shortage of patterned glory at the Tommy Hilfiger show. Whether in your clothing schemes or decor, try mixing and matching patterns for a luxe and creative look that will be a chic optical illusion for guests. Use chevron table runners, striped napkins or plates, or polka dotted seat covers to shake up the room and add a little flair.
