Burlap vs. Burlap
If you’re one of the many brides planning on using burlap in your wedding decor, this post is for you. I’ll pass along a few things I’ve learned talking to wedding planners, decorators and florists:
- It’s easy to overspend on this basic material. I went to Home Depot this weekend and purchased 8 yards of burlap for $12.37 (find it in the home and garden area). That’s a steal compared to most craft stores where it sells for $3.99 per yard.

- Burlap is (really) flammable. You’ll need to spray is with a fire-retardant spray before using it anywhere near a candle (runners, ribbons around mason jars, etc). Consider putting something coaster’esque underneath glass vases with candles inside.
- Burlap will fray (believe me). There are 2 products that will keep your fringe in check. Fray Check, a binding liquid, can be applied to the edges and acts as a bonding agent that keeps the edges from fraying. The other is Stitch Witchery, almost like glue in that it can bind the fabric together.
- If you’re not up for finishing the edges yourself, you can find many online vendors (Amazon, U-Line) selling the material in various widths, lengths, colors, etc.
- Burlap can come with it’s own, er, distinct perfume. Don’t put it in the washer or dryer. Hand washing it water with vinegar, and air-drying; or sprinkle baking soda will absorb the scent.
I hope this helps! Please send me pics of your wedding burlap projects, I’d love to see them!
Found! Corks, and lots of them.
Looking for a way to collect wine corks without paying the price the next morning? A few years ago, I needed corks for friend’s wedding project. I went into a wine bar/store and asked if they had any corks I could take off their hands? The owner came back with a bag chock-full of corks. Boo-ya!
Tip: Go in during off hours and make sure you buy a bottle or two of wine to repay their generosity.

Been looking for a videographer who does wedding videos like the studios I’ve been cyber-stalking in southern Cali. I felt like I hit the jackpot when I stumbled across this video one night! It’s by Bellus Photo + Film and they’re in OMAHA!

Found! Clear Acrylic Chiavari Chairs
I (literally) gasped when I saw a Bridal University exhibitor booth had these clear acrylic Chiavari chairs in their display. I asked the exhibitor where they were from, and of course they replied “Memrical.” Love!
